How a Wedding Gift Registry Works in South Africa

What it costs

Creating and running a registry at Binuns costs nothing. There is no listing fee, no commission taken off your gifts, and no charge for closing it.

When your registry closes we issue a Binuns gift voucher worth 10% of everything that was bought from it, to spend in store or online. On a registry where guests spent R20,000 that is a R2,000 voucher — usually what pays for the things nobody chose.

How your guests use it

Guests do not need an account. They open your link, see what is still available, pick a gift and pay with a card. Their name and email is all that is asked for.

For the expensive items, group gifting lets several guests put in any amount towards one gift, with the progress bar visible to everyone. That is how most couples get the cast-iron casserole or the stand mixer that no single guest would buy alone.

What to actually put on it

Spread the list across price bands or your guests have nowhere to land. A workable South African wedding list has a dozen things under R300, a solid middle at R300–R1,500 and a handful of big items for group gifting.

What Binuns does not stock

We are a home and kitchen store, not a bedding store. There is no bed linen, no duvets, no sheets, no towels for the bathroom and no furniture in our range. If those matter to you, run a second list at a bedding retailer and send guests both links — plenty of couples do.

What we do have is roughly 12,000 kitchen, dining, appliance and homeware products from over 140 brands, including Le Creuset, Smeg, Victorinox, Tramontina, Maxwell & Williams, Carrol Boyes, Kenwood, Russell Hobbs and Pyrex.

When to open it

Open it as soon as the date is set. A registry that goes live with the save-the-dates catches the engagement gifts and the kitchen tea, not just the wedding itself. There is no time limit — you decide when it closes, and the 10% voucher is calculated on everything bought up to that point.
